News from our CEO, Gai

September was another busy month for the Sabre Pacific team. I headed up to sunny Brisbane to host a number of our partners – World Travel Professionals, Concierge BT and BCD Travel – at the Bledisloe Cup where we watched the Wallabies succumb to the All Blacks.

Another exciting moment this month was the NSW Parliament House reception for AFTA CEO Mike Hatton, who received a Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to the tourism industry. It’s very inspiring to see people like Mike being recognised for their lifetime of dedication to our industry.

Looking forward to catching up with all of you between now and the Christmas season.

Gai

Effective immediately, Sabre is please to announce that Air Zimbabwe (UM), Provincial Airlines (PB), TCI Skyking (RU), Air Baltic (BT) & Dnieproavia State Aviation (Z6) will participate as Direct Connect Sell carriers within Sabre.

Direct Connect Sell is an interactive sell process. With Direct Connect Availability, an interactive message between the Sabre system and the participating airline enables last-seat inventory displays and seamless, "real-time" access to the airline inventory during the availability process.

These changes now make booking OZ via Sabre very efficient and will ensure increased productivity and increased confidence in the availability display.

New laws for visitors to the USA

New US immigration laws state that citizens transiting and/or visiting the United States of America (USA) for less than 90 days, from the visa-waiver countries, will have to register their biographical and travel details on a website prior to departure. In doing so, travellers must obtain an electronic travel authorisation before boarding a plane or ship.

Currently, it is voluntary to apply for a Travel Authorisation for entry to the USA for all Australian and New Zealand citizens.

Effective 12th January 2009 it will be mandatory for all travellers to gain approval for travel to the USA via air or vessel.
